Description
This online activity discusses gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia and their progression to early gastric adenocarcinoma; neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia transitioning into neuroendocrine tumors, including the use of ancillary IHC; dysplasia in sporadic and syndromic gastric polyps; and pain points and pitfalls.

This activity was originally presented at CAP20 as part of the activity Gastrointestinal, Liver, and Pancreaticobiliary Neoplasms: Precursors and Progeny Charting the Course.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Evaluate neoplasia precursor scenarios in the stomach such as gastritis and sporadic polyps.
  2. Discuss neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia and dysplasia and their transition into neuroendocrine tumors.
  3. Compare how carcinogenesis progresses from gastritis versus from sporadic polyps.
