Immunohistochemistry in Urologic Pathology

Pricing: Member: $40.00 NonMember: $52.00 Junior Member: $10.00

Intended Audience
This anatomic pathology activity is intended for pathologists who have basic to moderate knowledge and skills in IHC interpretation and want to develop their skills in examining molecular alterations detected by IHC and tumor classification.

Description
Interpreting IHC results requires consideration of the tissue morphology and the clinical context of urogenital tumors. Additionally, pairing IHC results with genetic markers of hereditary syndromes can provide further insight into diagnosing and classifying tumors. The combination of incorporating molecular alterations and IHC interpretations are emerging as a future clinical standard in selecting specific therapies. To keep pathologists current on advances in pathology, this presentation covers examples of tumors in the kidney, bladder, prostate, and testicles and how they are classified using IHC and markers of genetic alterations.

This activity was presented at the 2024 CAP Pathology in the Mountains as part of the activity Immunohistochemistry in Urologic Pathology.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Discover how IHC must be interpreted in conjunction with the morphology and clinical context of kidney, bladder, testicular, and prostate tumors.
  2. Identify genetic alterations that can be discovered with IHC.
  3. Infer how molecular alterations detected by IHC can assist in the classification of the tumor and potential therapies.
  4. Describe how receptors of antibody drug conjugates are likely to be the next clinical standard in selecting specific therapies.
