CAP Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics Inspector Training Seminar - 03/10/2026

March 10, 2026

Pricing: $25.00

NOTE: Registration is required to attend this seminar. By registering in advance you will receive refreshments, trained status as a CAP inspector and the opportunity to claim CME/CE credit.

This in-person training seminar is intended for pathologists, PhDs, clinical laboratory scientists, and pathology trainees involved in inspecting molecular pathology and/or cytogenetics laboratories.

Description
The CAP will offer an in-person inspector training program specifically designed for the unique needs of cytogenetics and molecular pathology inspectors during the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) 2026 Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting.

The purpose of this in-person only seminar is to demonstrate effective inspection techniques so that inspectors will be more confident and comfortable performing inspections. Specific topics include the overall inspection process (eg, preparation, practical “how-to” tips of conducting the inspection, and documenting the findings), as well as determining compliance with not only the accreditation requirements unique to molecular pathology and cytogenetics, but also the applicable requirements from the Laboratory General and All Common Checklists.

Emphasis will be placed on the inspection of laboratories performing inherited disease and somatic testing by Sanger Sequencing and next-generation sequencing (NGS) methodologies. NGS validation, quality control, interpretation, and result reporting will also be discussed. In addition, shared checklist requirements addressing in situ hybridization and array-based testing using the Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology Checklists will be presented, as well as other Cytogenetics Checklist-specific requirements.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Use CAP resources to prepare for an inspection.
  2. Describe generally accepted techniques to produce consistent inspection findings.
  3. Identify deficiencies and recommendations and appropriately document findings.
  4. Identify compliance with requirements unique to molecular pathology and cytogenetics.
