Applying Advanced Molecular Technology to Pathology Diagnoses: New Tools and New Classifications!
Overview
Pricing: Member: $70.00 NonMember: $91.00 Junior Member: $15.00
Intended Audience
This activity is appropriate for all pathologists and trainees who would like to improve their understanding in utilizing advanced molecular diagnostic tools in pathology diagnoses.
Description
Ten years after the surge of next-generation sequencing (NGS) adoption into clinical laboratories, the role and applications of molecular and genomic analysis in the diagnosis and management of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies continue to expand. The possibilities for broad genomic and transcriptomic surveillance have recently exploded, with the prospect of routine genome-wide DNA methylation analysis looming on the horizon. There’s no need to feel intimidated. In this activity, you will learn about emerging molecular diagnostic techniques that are revolutionizing tumor classification and impacting management decisions in oncology. You will also be presented with real-life case examples to illustrate scenarios in which NGS-based minimal residual disease monitoring, gene expression profiling classification, DNA methylation-based tumor classification, and integrated genomic and transcriptomic analyses play a central role in the diagnostic workup, classification, and risk stratification of tumors.
This activity was originally presented at CAP24 as Applying Advanced Molecular Technology to Pathology Diagnoses: New Tools and New Classifications!.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:
- Identify scenarios in which emerging advanced molecular diagnostic tools could refine disease classification or impact therapeutic decision-making.
- Describe the advantages and disadvantages of emerging molecular diagnostic techniques.
- Recognize and communicate the pertinent information provided by molecular ancillary studies.
