Intended Audience
This anatomic pathology activity is intended for pathologists who have basic to moderate knowledge and skills in gastrointestinal pathology and want to develop their skills in the interpretation of gallbladder dysplasia and its associated conditions.
Description
This session will discuss surprise intestinal metaplasia/dysplasia/neoplasia in the clinical setting of cholecystitis; other neoplastic polyps; porcelain gallbladders; and the pain points and pitfalls. This activity was originally presented at CAP20 as part of the activity Gastrointestinal, Liver, and Pancreaticobiliary Neoplasms: Precursors and Progeny Charting the Course.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:
- Diagnose intestinal metaplasia, low-, and high-grade dysplasia.
- Determine appropriate additional tissue sampling strategies after dysplasia has been diagnosed.
- Identify a calcified/fibrosed gallbladder and the significance of this disease.
- Develop a plan to address the specific clinical implications associated with a calcified/fibrosed gallbladder.
