Intended Audience
This clinical pathology activity is intended for pathologists.
Description
Procuring a secure blood supply is central to the mission of a transfusion medicine service in support of patient care. Blood products are among the more substantial line items in a hospital budget, and balancing availability and value is paramount. A request for proposal (RFP) in the transfusion medicine field is generally a query from a transfusion service for blood products, testing, and services that solicits bids from eligible blood centers. This activity will outline an organized approach to the RFP process, establishing a sound professional relationship between a healthcare system and a blood supplier.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:
- Design a request for proposal (RFP) template for a blood product supplier that is inclusive of the needs of your particular health care system practice setting.
- Recognize responses to an RFP that best highlight the supplier’s capabilities and fairly represent their organization’s ability to meet your health care system’s needs.
- Evaluate blood suppliers’s RFP responses to select the supplier(s) that best suit your needs.
- Plan to foster a mutually beneficial professional relationship between a healthcare entity and blood supplier in the best interests of patient care.
