Description
Through its CLIA program, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has stringent requirements for qualifications laboratory supervisors and directors. Supervisory personnel not meeting CLIA qualifications and delegation of responsibility to individuals who are not qualified can result in citations during CAP inspections. This case study explores the qualifications for supervisory, consulting, and directorial roles, and addresses delegation of responsibility.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

1. Interpret the CLIA-required qualifications for supervisory and professional personnel for different laboratories and disciplines.
2. Describe the CLIA-required roles and responsibilities of supervisory and professional personnel.
