This activity introduces the process of developing a quality laboratory management program and is an overview of quality management topics, building a quality plan, and developing a quality manual. Additionally, this activity focuses on understanding laboratory quality improvement, analyzing metrics, monitors, and controls, conducting laboratory assessments, and improving quality throughout the total testing process.

This adaptive activity offers a unique learner experience. By answering a series of questions that determine your existing knowledge, you will be prescribed a customized pathway that focuses on individual learning needs.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Recognize the purpose of the quality system essentials, quality management plan, quality manual, and regulations affecting laboratory operations.
  2. Examine approaches for investigating laboratory errors and incidents and in developing improvement initiatives.
  3. Describe a quality management program that includes use of appropriate metrics, monitors, and controls for tracking the laboratory performance.
  4. Identify approaches for managing laboratory assessments, interpreting results, and resolving failures.
  5. Explain the importance of quality laboratory management throughout the preanalytical, analytical, and postanalytical total testing process.
