Performing Virtual Inspections: Being the CAP’s ‘Eyes and Ears’ from Home
This supplemental inspection training activity is intended for inspectors that have already completed online or in-person team leader or team member training and have been assigned to a virtual inspection. It is intended for trained team leaders (pathologists and PhDs) and trained team members (medical technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, laboratory supervisors/managers, pathologists, and pathology trainees) who are preparing to perform a virtual inspection.
Description
The purpose of this activity is to provide you with the tools and techniques to be a successful team leader or team member on a virtual inspection. You will learn the steps involved in preparing for the virtual inspection, the right amount of documents to review, how to adjust what you know about inspections to a virtual environment, and special considerations that may apply to protect patient and employee privacy on a livestream feed.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:
- List documentation review steps to be completed prior to inspection.
- Adapt common inspection techniques to a virtual environment.
- Describe key points to discuss at the virtual opening conference.
- Comply with patient and laboratory privacy restrictions unique to an unsecured live feed.
- Describe how to incorporate electronic pathways into the Inspection Summary Report compilation.
- Describe how to conduct a virtual Summation.
