Inspection Team Member Training
This activity is intended for team members (medical technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, laboratory supervisors/managers, pathologists, PhDs, and pathology trainees) who are preparing to perform an inspection and need to fulfill the inspector training requirement..

Description
The purpose of this activity is to provide you with the tools and techniques to be a successful inspection team member, and is appropriate for new as well as experienced team members. It also provides inspection or auditing techniques, which will assist you in gathering the appropriate information to determine if your findings support compliance with the requirements.
This adaptive activity offers a new look and learner experience. By answering a series of questions that determine your existing knowledge, you will be prescribed a customized pathway through the course that focuses on your individual learning needs.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:
- Effectively apply time management strategies to facilitate the inspection process.
- Inform laboratory personnel of potential deficiencies as the deficiencies are identified (prior to Summation).
- Based on the information gathered during the inspection, cite deficiencies when the intent of the requirements is not met.
- Provide recommendations in compliant situations to promote process improvements.
- Apply appropriate Lab General requirements.
- Ensure consistent interpretation of common checklist items (eg, QMS, PT, QC, patient safety, method specifications, personnel/competency, safety, computers, and reports).
- Recognize situations which have caused or could cause serious immediate harm to patient or staff (immediate jeopardy) and act accordingly (eg, contact the CAP).
- Apply the practice of corrected during inspection versus removing deficiencies appropriately.
- Complete the pink deficiency ISR pages with sufficient detail to clearly describe the noncompliance.
- Recognize the purpose and importance of the Presummation and Summation Conferences.
- Recognize the Counsel on Accreditation (CoA) policies that relate to the conduct of inspections.
- Be familiar with the purpose and use of the checklists.
- Understand the information included in the Team Member Packet and use that information to prepare in advance for the inspection.
- Use appropriate inspection techniques (R-O-A-D).
